Project Binky Update: lt’s Back And It’s Badass, But Has Had To Have Some Tweaks

Despite being the most well thought out car build I’ve ever seen online, and also being finished to a much more show car level than anyone ever expected at the beginning of this whole project. And like everyone else online I’ve been super excited to see what’s in store and what progress has been made in the reassembly of this bad boy. Unfortunately there have been a couple of setbacks that are potentially a real problem, of the type you don’t want to deal with once a car is painted and ready for reassembly. But instead of looking at this as a negative, I look at it as reinforcement that when this happens to us normal people it doesn’t mean we suck.

Watch this latest video and if you missed any of this build before, then you need to dedicate your YouTube watching hours to this thing because it is epic in every way and will teach you things about how to build cars better. No, really, it will.

Love It? Hate It? This Camaro Was Built In Thailand, Where American Cars Are Rare. What Do You Think?

Love It? Hate It? This Camaro Was Built In Thailand, Where American Cars Are Rare. What Do You Think?

(Words by Charles Wickam) Just when you thought you couldn’t build a 1st gen Camaro any other way it takes a builder with the foresight to merge trends from two continents and apply them to a car, a 60s muscle car at that. Tinky, as he’s known in Thailand, is the owner and build who spent over 6 plus years taking JDM styling from Japan and applying it to this 1968 Camaro. In Thailand, American cars are few and far between since there is an insanely high import tax on foreign cars brought in from other countries, like around 80%, but that doesn’t deter people from bringing in cars they want.

In the video, it’s not stated what condition the Camaro was in before Tinky started, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was a shell and if you pay close enough attention to the car in different scenes you will see a modified firewall, bumpers deleted, a filler panel added in the rear to house 71-73 round Camaro tail lights (I’ll admit and say I really like this mod). But then there are the added JDM touches as you would see on early modded Japanese cars with colored lenses covering the headlights, missing grills with exposed oil and transmission coolers, mirrors placed on the fenders, and bolt-on over fenders covering the extremely wide Work wheels.

While I was expecting a 2JZ or RB26 engine in it a built LS engine keeps to its American roots with power going thru a 4L60. And before you start with saying he should have used something stronger, remember he is in Thailand and using what he has access to or is capable of importing. He knows there’s a weakness to them but he’s using what he has to finally enjoy his car, and we commend him for it.

What do you think of this thing? Love it? Hate it? Let us know in the comments below and let us know exactly what it is that you love or hate!

Valvetrain Tech: If Light Weight And Low Reciprocating Mass Matter So Much, Do Stiffer Valve Springs Cost Horsepower?

Valvetrain Tech: If Light Weight And Low Reciprocating Mass Matter So Much, Do Stiffer Valve Springs Cost Horsepower?

Roller rockers, roller lifters, beehive valve springs, lightweight valves, lightweight locks and retainers, and the list goes on. These are all things designed to aid in controlling valvetrain at high rpm and under extreme power levels, and they do this by reducing the load required to move and control these components. So it would make sense that lighter valve springs would also be good for that. After all, anyone that has built an engine before knows that spinning the engine over by hand is very easy when it is just a short block and gets harder as you add components. If you have an engine with no spark plugs in it, and no rocker arms, then it is still really easy to spin by hand. But when you also have to turn the valvetrain, it becomes much more difficult.

So if you had an engine that didn’t “require” heavier valve springs, because it wasn’t going to be run at high rpm or didn’t have a camshaft that needed the extra valve control that heavy springs provide, would it make more horsepower with lighter weight springs that the others? Logic says yes. Or at least it seems like it does. But what does the dyno say?

Luckily for us, Richard Holdener knows because he’s done this very test and here it is so you can see for yourself.

Amazing Video: Watch The Detailed, Involved, and Super Interesting Process Of Building A Tiny Connecting Rod!

Amazing Video: Watch The Detailed, Involved, and Super Interesting Process Of Building A Tiny Connecting Rod!

We have long loved videos featuring miniature engines around here. The craftsmanship, the time, the precision, and the creativity that go into them are all great things. Normally great things executed by retired old guys who have the patience and time to really flex those muscles but still, they’re great. This series of videos shows a guy (well at least his hands and arms) building a scratch designed miniature engine and this one is all about building the one little rod that goes into the engine. When we mean little, we mean like you cold get 30 of these in one handful type of small. It is an amazingly detailed process that all takes place in a little home shop with mostly tabletop machining tools.

Sure, in 20 years guys will just be 3D printing these parts or maybe there will be a $300 table top CNC machine to use at hom but for now it takes smarts, plenty of measuring, plenty of minute machining, and skills to turn out a piece like this.

Rather than continue to blabber, we’ll just tell you to watch the video below. THIS is some really fun machining and fabrication work done on a small scale!

Awesomely Weird: This 1970s Chevrolet Parts Film Stars Evel Knievel And Literally Makes No Sense

Awesomely Weird: This 1970s Chevrolet Parts Film Stars Evel Knievel And Literally Makes No Sense

We’re guessing someone lost their job for this one. You are going to watch this 1970s Chevrolet parts film which stars Evel Knivel and makes literally no sense at all. The theme of the film is “conflict” and it is illustrated by a series of scenes where animals eat other animals, black and white movies are shown, and Evel Knievel jumps stuff on his motorcycle, sometimes crashing, sometimes not. Throw in a dose of 1970s Anchoman-level hilarity with a bikini-clad woman, and you have yourself one of the most singular odd things we have ever seen.

Make no mistake, Knievel would never turn down a gig, especially one with Chevrolet that likely was a great payday for reading some cue-cards. The company definitely did not hire him for his suave acting ability because this dude is straight up stiff while narrating the action. By action, we mean the bizarre things we are shown on screen.

Oddly, while Chevrolet parts are mentioned a handful of times there’s barely (if ever) a Chevrolet car shown as a prop in the film. This whole thing is some weirdo theater of the mind that was likely schemed up by an executive’s kid. “Hey Johnson, get my son a job in the media department and let him run wild!”

Obviously, Knievel was majorly famous at this point and his star only grew bigger. Note that he mentions that someday, “I’ll jump a mile….” we all know how that quest ended.

You have to see this one to believe it.

Press play to see the weirdest Chevrolet Parts video ever made, starring Evel Knievel!
